Sony devices get Real media player

RealOne brings music to your mobile device

RealOne Player users will soon be able to store digital music files on any of over 20 different Sony audio devices.

Under a deal forged with RealNetworks, Sony will release a music device plug-in for RealOne Player on 8 July. The free plug-in will enable users to transfer music to Sony's Net MD Walkman, Network Walkman and Vaio personal computers, among other devices.

The launch is one of the fruits of a broader agreement RealNetworks signed earlier this year to bring audio and video technology to Sony's hardware devices.

For RealNetworks the deal represents another opportunity to springboard its media player off desktops and on to mobile devices. The software maker has been working with a number of consumer device manufacturers in an effort to widen its reach.

Last March, the company launched a version of RealOne Player to run on Pocket PC devices and struck a deal to have the software incorporated on Compaq's iPaq handheld computer.
