1.8GHz Celerons are go

Intel officially announces latest budget processor

We reported back in May that Intel would be launching a 1.8GHz version of its Celeron processor, and lo and behold it has been officially announced today.

This chip is, as you might expect, its fastest offering in its value range of processors, and is based on the 0.18 micron architecture with a 400MHz system bus.

The chips will be priced at $103 (£70) for 1,000-unit quantities.

The Celeron is now the only processor aimed squarely at the budget market as AMD has phased out its Celeron rival, the Duron. It is now running a single product line for its desktop processors, although it does plan to introduce a high-end workstation and server CPU, the Opteron, soon.
