Duron ramps some more

AMD pushes Mobile budget processor to 1.2GHz

AMD is rolling out new versions of its Mobile Duron processor, the company announced today.

The release of the latest Mobile Durons, which run at 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz, come a year after the company first launched the chip and hot on the heels of a 1GHz version of the processor that was announced in mid-December.

With built-in power management, the chips are designed for use in notebook computers and other situations where low power consumption is important.

In addition to the Mobile Duron, AMD also offers a higher-performance Mobile Athlon processor for such applications. The two chips represent the largest competition to Intel's Mobile Celeron and Mobile Pentium III processors.

At the same time as announcing the faster chips, the company cut the price of its six-week-old 1GHz Mobile Duron by 37.5 percent.
