AOL aims for mobile phones

Buddies on your moby (lol)

AOL is teaming up with mobile phone manufacturer Motorola with a view to integrating the online service provider's Instant Messenger into wireless devices.

There was no immediate word on pricing or date of availability.

The bad news for consumers could be more life-sapping ring tones on the bus. The marketing side of the deal includes an agreement by Motorola to license content from AOL Time Warner's (AOLTW) movie studio subsidiary Warner Brothers, which includes ring tones — along with Looney Tunes cartoon characters, screensavers and wireless games.

Motorola will also boost its marketing across AOLTW's global media empire, which includes such TV channels as CNN, magazines like Time, and the AOL online service.
