BT wakes up to USB

Telco finally offers Highway via USB connection

BT yesterday announced the launch of its plug-and-play system for new Highway users, which should cut the cost of its ISDN connections.

All digital access boxes will now contain a USB port to enable customers a link it directly to their PC with minimum fuss. Previously Highway customers had to have a digital access box installed and then shell out for an ISDN PC card — around £50.

IT is easy to accuse BT of being a little late, because most other services already use USB ports as standard. Coupled with the fact that people are switching to ADSL in favour of always-on internet connection, it just looks as though BT is struggling to catch up with competitors and even its other businesses.
