Time unveils monster-memory PC

P4 system packs 1GB RAM to support XP

Computer manufacturer Time today announced the launch of a PC with 1GB of memory. The first computer with this much RAM to be released in the UK, Time has decided to trumpet its debut by giving it the brash moniker 'I am the Greatest'.

The PC has come out just in time for the launch of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows XP, the first OS with the capacity to fully utilise 1GB of system memory.

Ideal for jobs which require multitasking, such as graphic design and digital photography, Time says the computer is so fast it will never need to be upgraded in its lifetime.

With a full 1GB at its disposal, the system is faster at processing information because, when RAM is in high demand, the operating system does not have to rely on the slower memory of the hard disk for additional supplies.

The £1,799 (ex VAT) PC houses an Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1,025MB SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM) and a 160GB hard disk. Bundled with the system is a 1,200dpi flatbed scanner, an Epson 480 colour printer and a digital camera, plus, of course, a shiny new copy of Windows XP.
