HP updates e-PC

HP announces new business PCs and monitors

HP has announced it will launch three new desktop PCs and two monitors next month.

Among the products set for an October launch are HP’s second generation e-PC, the e-PC 40. It will feature upgradable memory and an Intel Celeron processor running at up to 1GHz. Pentium 4 models will follow in December. The e-PC has also gone through an image makeover, with the new version a two-tone black and off-white design.

While the e-PC still only features four components — a hard drive, power supply, system chassis and memory — it also comes loaded with diagnostic software. "If something goes wrong with it, you can diagnose it in about five minutes," claims Mike White, North American marketing manager for HP's business desktop division.

The e-PC will be less than 10cm across, just under 25cm tall and 28cm deep and weighs a squeak over 4.5kg. The e-PC should be available in the US from October, starting at around £400 excluding VAT. European pricing has yet to be announced.

HP will also add two monitors to its Professional line in the fourth quarter. The L1520 is a 15in LCD monitor priced at around £350 while the P1130, a 21in flat-screen CRT (cathode ray tube), will cost around £600.
