3Com rolls out e-commerce package for small businesses

Consultancy no longer restricted to large corporates

3Com’s Active Business Unit has been launched to help small and medium sized businesses (SMB) adopt e-commerce, along with the unit’s first product, e-audit - a free e-commerce consultancy service.

E-audit is a business assessment tool that will be taken into SMBs by 3Com’s partners and resellers to evaluate how a business can improve by using e-commerce.

A report of recommendations will then be produced for the company. Recommendations will cover areas such as IT and communications infrastructure, Web marketing, buying and selling online and customer relationship management.

The Active Business Unit also launched its e-commerce handbook, The Information Entrepreneur. It provides a guide, checklists and tips for UK businesses wanting to embrace the dotcom world.

This is the first of a range of guides that 3Com will produce on a six monthly basis. Adrian Hurel, managing director of 3Com UK, said: “Our research shows that 76 percent of UK small businesses do not have an IT plan, and 53 percent do not have dedicated in-house IT resource.” He added: “E-audit is designed to fill this gap. It will help Britain’s smaller businesses embrace the Internet age with greater certainty and safety.”

An e-audit can be ordered on 0845 300 3030 or at www.3com.co.uk/active-business. The Information Entrepreneur is available for £19.95 from the 3Com web site.
