DoCoMo recalls defective phones

Third time unlucky for faulty iMode mobiles

Japanese wireless operator NTT DoCoMo is to recall 100,000 iMode phones for repairs.

The iMode P5031 Hyper phone encounters faults when sending base station radio signals, depriving many people of the ability to receive incoming calls and emails.

This is the third time this year DoCoMo has recalled defective handsets.

Although the glitches only affect people in certain reception areas, hiccups like this can only mean further delays to the rollout of iMode services across Europe.

DoCoMo said once it has isolated all the faulty models, which can be recognised by their serial codes, the customers it affected would be contacted.

A freephone number for users to call will also be posted on the DoCoMo website.

But DoCoMo is not the only company which has experienced glitches: Sony recalled 500,000 of its 'overheating' web phones just last week.
