They think it's Ananova…

It is now - news site makes a Big Brother balls-up

News site Ananova will be red-faced today after releasing in an email alert how some of the inhabitants of the Big Brother house voted in the general election some seven hours before it was supposed to.

"The Big Brother housemates have cast their votes in the general election," read the email. "Helen backed Labour while Bubble chose the Liberal Democrats. Dean chose to abstain. Seven of the housemates voted, with six of them using the diary room as a makeshift polling station and one voting by proxy.

According to the mail, which contained information embargoed until 10pm tonight, one contestant, Dean, said: "I've never voted in a general election. I've not found a party which represents my political views." News stories are often embargoed, which is a request for news services to refrain from publishing them in advance of an agreed time or date.

Another contestant, Helen, allegedly voted Labour, but has no idea why. "I don't know really. I think they've done alright in the last four years. And I don't wanna vote Conservative 'cos they're all stuck up aren't they?"

Perhaps Big Brother was worried about affecting the nation's voting. But someone at Ananova was obviously seriously concerned about repercussions - a few minutes after the offending email was sent out another slipped into the inboxes of those signed up for the service's updates asking people to immediately delete the previous mail.

"Please disregard story headlined BIG BROTHER HOUSEMATES CAST THEIR VOTES sent out at 14.43 on June 7," goes the plea. "This was sent out in error and should be deleted from your inbox immediately. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

That's ok, no inconvenience caused. Just a few smiles.
