Sony joins three megapixel bandwagon

Zooming feature challenges Fuji

Sony has joined the growing list of manufacturers offering three megapixel cameras. The unimaginatively named DSC-S70 is one of four new arrivals from the consumer electronics giant.

In addition to a 3.34 mega pixel CCD (Charged Coupling Device) it also has a 3x optical zoom and a 6x digital zoom. It can zoom in on a specific part of the picture - a feature previously only seen in Fuji cameras.

The increasingly standard video capture mode is also included, which at 16 frames per second puts it not far off the standard 24 frame film quality capture.

Pictures are saved to a Memory Stick, Sony’s proprietary flash memory format. Pricing has yet to be announced. www.sony.co.uk
