TalkTalk has announced a ‘superfast’ 80Mb fibre optic broadband package in the UK. Customers can pre-register and the service will go live in April.

The firm has doubled its fastest package from 40Mb, which it launched last year, to 80Mb. The cost is an extra £15 per month on top of current Essentials or Plus package price.

TalkTalk said it has, "taken a major step forward in helping the UK achieve its goal of having Europe’s best superfast broadband with the launch of its new great value Fibre Optic Broadband."

There is a one-off £25 activation fee and “no hidden costs”. Customers can check availability for the new package at www.talktalk.co.uk/fibre.

The 80Mb speed will give customers a fast and reliable connection to meet the demands of watching live television and downloading large files like movies, according to TalkTalk. However, the 80Mb isn’t the fastest available in the UK. Virgin Media is in the process of doubling its customers’ broadband to a new high of 120Mb.

Tristia Clarke, commercial director at TalkTalk, said, "Demand is continuing to increase for superfast broadband as more customers use their internet connections to watch live television, stream HD content, talk to their friends and family or play games that require real time responses."

"We expect our new Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband to be very popular as it will allow the whole family to enjoy seamless connectivity and high upload and download speeds for unbeatable value."
