TalkTalk has announced it will give its customers YouView set top boxes for free.

Pre-registration is open from today, but there is a catch. Existing customers will have to re-contract with TalkTalk for 24 months while new customers will be subject to an 18 month contract. There's also a £50 installation fee will apply during the initial roll out phase.

YouView offers Freeview TV combined with catch-up and on-demand services including BBC iPlayer and 4OD. Users can also record, pause and rewind live TV and also on offer for an extra charge are Sky Sports and Sky Movies.

For those on TalkTalk Essentials, the firm plans to launch a TV service for you next year.

The news comes shortly after TalkTalk launched a deal offering its existing Plus customers a free yearlong subscription to Lovefilm Instant.
