Virgin Media has switched on free Wi-Fi internet at four of London's underground tube stations.

The service has been put in place ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games and is now live at King's Cross, Warren Street, Oxford Circus and Green Park. A total of 80 stations will be connected by the end of July with Victoria and Euston set to go live tomorrow.
Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media said: "This is a truly historic moment as we connect millions of Tube passengers to the wonderful world of the internet for the first time ever."
"Our plans for getting London Underground online were very ambitious from the start and, in less than just three months, we’ve launched a major new service, making London one of the world’s leading connected cities."
By the end of the year Virgin Media will provide Wi-Fi at 120 tube stations across the capital. Users need to register with an email address to use the service on a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
The service will be free to anyone for the summer, after which it will be restricted to Virgin Media customers. Non Virgin Media customers will still get free access to live travel news, Time Out, Spotify and MyMovies.net.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: "Our partnership with Virgin Media to make WiFi available on Tube platforms will be of tremendous benefit as building world class connectivity is critical to supporting new businesses and the jobs they create, especially in the high-tech and creative sectors."

Arthur Llewellyn Vice said: I do agree that Virgin Media should do more to get to areas that they are not covering at the moment I can also see the potential that Virgin Media sees with the wi-fi connection at Tube Stations with 1107 million passengers using it each year Each one of who will have to sign up to Virgin Medias service should they want to continue with the wi-fi service after the summer of 2012
Derek Rothwell said: Such a pity VM dont concentrate on getting their services to those of us who cannot access at home it rather than getting WiFi to the mierable faces on the tube Great idea to adverise themselves in this way but with over half of the UK unable to access VM services its pretty pointless advertising in my mind
