BT’s super-fast Infinity broadband is currently available to more than ten million premises in the UK, and supposedly to two thirds of the country by 2014.
New BT Infinity broadband exchanges
This week BT announced the passing of the 10 million Infinity broadband milestone, and also a long list of new UK exchanges that can handle the fast Internet access.
The 80Mbps fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) technology roll out is “months ahead of schedule” according to the telecoms giant.
Even faster 300Mbps fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband is promised from spring 2013.
New BT Infinity broadband exchanges:
Bathgate (FTTC) West Lothian
Bingham (FTTC) Nottinghamshire County
Canvey Island (FFTC) Essex County
Chapel Brampton (FTTC) Northamptonshire County
Dover (FTTC) Kent
East Bay (FTTC) Essex County
Farnham Common (FTTC) Buckinghamshire County
Hampden Park (FTTC) Essex County

Wellingborough (FTTC) Northamptonshire County
Welwyn Garden (FTTC) Hertfordshire
Initially, BT's FTTP service was only available in Milton Keynes, where it was being trialled. Telecoms company later made it available in Ashford in Middlesex, Highams Park in North London, Chester South, St Austell and York.
Most BT domestic broadband customers connected with traditional copper wire receive a maximum download speed of 10mbps dependent on the distance from the phoneexchange and the condition of network infrastructure used, with a typical upload speed of between 1 and 2mbps or much lower in some cases.
The BT fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) offering from BT is ideal for remote workers dealing with large files that have to be received and sent, and for consumer TV and video on demand use - particularly in the HD format - and online gamers.
The 100mbps BT Infinity Option 3 comes with unlimited evening and weekend calls for £35 a month. This is the same monthly price charged by Virgin Media. For both deals at this price the user has to also rent a phone line.
