O2 announces 150Mb 4G trial speeds

Excitement builds for high speed mobile broadband

O2 has announced it recorded speeds of up to 150Mb during its recent 4G trial.

The speed is 50 percent extra on top of the 100Mb it previously touted for the trial. However, most people taking part managed speeds between 20Mb and 50Mb.

The network has been tested on the 2,600MHz spectrum in central London with around 1,000 participants. The firm said a 40MB file could be downloaded in a matter of seconds.

Ronan Dunne, CEO of O2 said the upcoming spectrum will be a "watershed moment for the UK mobile industry."

O2 said: "The results of the trial will help us shape the network when it launches to our customers in the future, and ensure we provide our customers with the best 4G experience."

As the country looks forward to the increased performance of 4G mobile operators, including O2 and Vodafone, are worried about the situation which might see Everything Everywhere roll out a network ahead of its rivals.
