Plusnet launches fibre broadband service

'Up to' 40Mbps costs £16.49 per month

UK ISP Plusnet has followed in the footsteps of TalkTalk and BT and has launched a fibre broadband package.

The service, which uses fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) technology and offers download speeds of 'up to' 40Mbps, is available to new and existing users in fibre-enabled areas for £16.49 per month

The packages comes with a 40GB download limit, although web users have no download cap between midnight and 8am every day of the week. Plusnet Extra Fibre, which offers a 120GB download limit and McAfee security software, is also available for £21.49. Both packages are subject to a £50 connection fee, although this will waivered for those taking up Plusnet's home phone service.

Plusnet said recent trials of the service revealed 74 percent of broadband customers that were previously achieving speeds of between two and 12Mbps were receiving speeds of 30Mbps or above.

"Plusnet Fibre is the next generation of broadband and 96 per cent of our trialists say they would recommend the service to friends. We thought the pigeon race was a light-hearted way to illustrate the speed advance that Plusnet Fibre can offer," said Jamie Ford, CEO of Plusnet.
