Wi-Fi will be the next must-have technology for personal media players, with over 20 percent of iPods and other similar devices including wireless support 2012.

Research firm iSuppli said just 9 percent of these devices have such connectivity at this time - while the analysts don't note how many iPod touch devices are included in that 9 percent, they do anticipate such features will become more prevalent in future.

In fact, Wi-Fi support will be more essential to consumers than Bluetooth or a touchscreen, the analysts said, noting Bluetooth is included in under 4 percent of personal media players.

The research also indicates the market for such devices is nearing saturation, predicting only a 4.3 percent annual growth in 2012, which comes around to 197.1 million increase from 2007 to 243.3 million units in 2012.
