The UK has been declared Western Europe's most digital market, according to fresh research from Informa.
Informa publishes a Converging Media Index every quarter. As of the end of 2005, the UK has achieved an index rating of 30.5, well ahead of the now second-ranked market, Finland, which has an index figure of 23.1, the researchers claim.
"The UK is by far Western Europe's most digital market and its surprising number-one ranking is due to the huge take-up of digital television. The sector now boasts a base of almost 17 million users," said Steve Mullins, editor of Informa Telecoms & Media's Converging Media research service.
Italy, although ranked third, has Western Europe's leading mobile-broadband sector, with close to ten million subscribers.
