Creative has released its first music player to support Apple's iTunes-friendly AAC audio format.

The "credit card-sized" Zen – measuring 55-x-83-x-12mm - supports music, video and photos and features a 2.5in colour screen. Three versions have launched – a 4GB model costing £99.99, an 8GB version costing £139.99 and 16GB player for which pricing has yet to be announced.

Creative said the device plays CDs ripped in iTunes and supports non-DRM iTunes Plus downloads from the iTunes store. The Zen also supports MP3, WMA, M4A (non-DRM AAC), and video encoded in WMV and DivX/XviD.

Also included is a built-in FM radio with 32 station presets, a voice recorder, and a personal organiser which can synchronise contacts, 'to do' lists and calendars with Microsoft Outlook.

"The Creative ZEN immediately gets attention because it has the same size screen as our award-winning ZEN Vision:M, but is so much smaller, lighter and thinner," said Sim Wong Hoo, chairman and CEO of Creative. "Now people can have a great video watching experience with a very compact player."

The Creative ZEN will be showcased at the IFA exhibition in Berlin, which runs from August 31 – 5 September.
