Belkin has launched an armband wireless remote control that uses a fabric-based interface to control iPods. The SportCommand works with most dock connector-equipped iPods and will costs $79.99 when it becomes available in the US in November.
The product straps to your arm using a Velcro strap to keep your iPod safe and dry inside a backpack or jacket. It's designed for people who want to listen to music while snowboarding, mountain biking or hiking - activities where you might get wet, but not totally submersed.
The surface of the SportCommand is manufactured using a fabric material called ElekTex, made by UK firm Eleksen - it's been used on other clothing that features iPod controls, including suits and jackets. The remote allows you to play and pause, fast forward and rewind, and adjust volume levels up and down. It's hand-washable and has a 50-foot range.
Belkin said the SportCommand is compatible with iPod nano, iPod mini, Click Wheel-equipped iPods, iPod photo and video iPod models.
