Apple updated its iPod range at its Showtime product launch yesterday, introducing larger capacities, brighter screens and lower prices across the range.
But it failed to launch a touchscreen, wireless-capable or phone iPod.
The new iPod features a 60 percent brighter 2.5in colour display and is available in a 30GB model (£189) and an 80GB model (£259).
Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: "The new iPod's brighter and more vibrant display and longer battery life makes it perfect for watching Hollywood movies and TV shows right in the palm of your hand."
Sadly, Hollywood movies and TV shows aren't available for sale through iTunes in Europe. Jobs said the company hopes to deliver such new features by "early 2007".
The 30GB model features up to 14 hours of battery life for music playback and up to three-and-a-half hours of video playback, and the 80GB model features up to 20 hours of battery life for music playback and five-and-a-half-hours of video playback. The new iPod features brightness control.
The new iPods also support a new Search and Quick Scroll feature, which lets users search for music alphabetically – a major boost when selecting tunes from large collections.
The company has also launched a range of games, which it is making available for download and purchase through iTunes.
These downloadable games include: Tetris, Mahjong and Mini Golf from Electronic Arts; Pac-Man from Namco Networks; Cubis 2 from FreshGames; Bejeweled and Zuma from PopCap Games; and Texas Hold 'em and Vortex developed by Apple, all available beginning today for £3.99 each.
All iPods include redesigned earbud headphones providing superior comfort, fit and sound quality, and a USB 2.0 cable.
Optional accessories for the new iPod include: Universal Dock for £25, Apple Remote for £19, Apple iPod AV cable for £15, the iPod Camera Connector for £19 and a new incredibly compact iPod USB power adapter for £19, which is about half the size of the previous USB power adapter.
