Logitech Squeezebox to support Spotify

Users need Spotify Premium to access it

Logitech has joined forces with Spotify to integrate the namesake music service with Logitech's Squeezebox Wi-Fi music players, the company has announced.

Using a new application, a wireless home network and a Squeezebox Touch or Squeezebox Radio player, consumers will be able to access more than 10 million songs from Spotify, including the service's playlists, anywhere in the home, according to a statement from Logitech.

To be able to use Spotify on a Squeezebox, users have to sign up for the premium, subscription version of Spotify. This isn't the first time Spotify has tried to lure consumers to upgrade from its free offering. The premium version is also a prerequisite to use Spotify on smartphones and to be able to access music without an internet connection.

A beta version of Spotify for Squeezebox Touch and Squeezebox Radio will be available on the Squeezebox website, according to Logitech. A full rollout is expected to happen soon, the company said.

Last year, Spotify signed a similar deal with Sonus, which also makes multi-room music systems. Spotify is currently available in Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
