Digital platforms were responsible for 20.9 percent of all radio listening in the UK between October and December last year.

According to the Rajar audience figures DAB radio accounted for 13.7 of all digital listening, while 3.4 used their digital TVs for radio listening and 2.1 percent plumped for the internet.

Overall digital listening figures were down on July to September in 2009, during which digital platforms made up 21.1 percent of all radio listening.

However, it was an increase on the previous year, when 18.3 percent of all radio listening were made using digital platforms.

Under proposals in the Digital Economy Bill, which is in the process of being passed by parliament, the government has revealed it plans to switch off analogue radio by 2015, after which you'll have to use a digital device.

More than 17 million Brits listen to digital radio broadcasts every week, that's a 5 percent increase on the same period in 2008.

However, at least half of all radio listening must be digital by 2013, if there is a hope of this happening. Currently reaching this target looks unlikely.
