1,000 titles available initially

eMusic is to start selling DRM-free audiobooks in MP3 format.

The company plans to introduce 1,000 titles initially, which will be made available to subscribers to its service tomorrow, according to reports.

eMusic then plans to make "hundreds more" titles available each week from now on.

eMusic said its customers can sign up for monthly subscriptions: $9.99 for one book, $19.99 for two books, and get one book free.

New eMusic customers will be offered an audiobooks subscription with one audiobook free if they sign up within 14 days.
