As announced, the iPod touch was unveiled with the promise that it would ship by the end of September. The product began to appear across the US yesterday.

In the UK, potential customers at Apple's online retail store can now pre-order the product, but shouldn't expect immediate availability.

In common with Apple's traditional retail introduction pattern, the device is being made widely available first in the US. UK customers are being told the product should ship "by 28 September".
