Play.com offers DRM-free MP3s

Etailer signs deal with top three record labels

PlayDigital, the MP3 download service from etailer Play.com is now offering DRM-free music.

Launched in February this year, the service, which already has a deal with EMI, announced it has signed deals with Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal, to offer over three million songs available for purchase as MP3s. Prices start from 65p for a single track and £4.99 for an album.

"We now have an offer to rival that of iTunes, yet in a format that gives the consumer choice and at a more appealing price. This site has been a phenomenal success since launch and now, armed with the full back catalogue and current releases from the all the majors, we are fantastically placed to take a bigger bite of the apple," said Wendy Snowdon, head of PlayDigital.
