Apple to introduce thinner iPod nano next week?

iPod-maker invites media to special event

Apple looks set to launch a new range of products next week, after inviting media to an event in San Francisco on September 9.

Speculation over what could be launched has been ongoing for several weeks. Digg founder Kevin Rose said last month that the company would release a new, slimmer version of the iPod nano, while other reports have claimed that solid-state hard drives would be introduced as an option across the MacBook laptop range.

In Apple's last three September launch events, the company introduced the iPod nano in 2005; overhauled the shuffle, nano, and video-capable iPods in 2006, and rolled out the third-generation iPod nano in 2007. Other September surprises in recent years have included partnerships with Motorola, car makers, the NFL, and Starbucks.
