WaTunes boosts social networking credentials

New site will go live in September

Music sharing site WaTunes.com has announced details of a new social media distribution service.

The current WaTunes site allows unsigned artists to sell their music through iTunes. However, WaTunes 2, which will be launching in September, will allow users to stream music in the WaTunes catalogue for free, while also rating and commenting on tracks and artists. The site will also offer a social networking element that will allow users to interact with each other.

"By combining core elements of digital content management, social networking, and Web 2.0, we’re able to create a system that caters to a wide-range of demands from both the artists and fans from around the world in a way in which everyone benefits. We are very thrilled to be able to help both the artists and their fans engage in a whole new music experience and service," said Kevin Rivers, co-founder and CEO of WaTunes.
