News: Final Mac OS X 'Tiger' update released
Apple has released what will probably be the final major update to Tiger - Mac OS X 10.4.11. The 40MB update includes many improvements and fixes, but it also features the final version of Safari 3.0, Apple's homegrown web browser that has been in beta for several months.

News: Apple fixes iMac freezing problems
Apple yesterday released iMac Software Update 1.2.1 (Tiger). The patch to the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger OS is intended for 20in and 24in aluminum-clad iMacs operating at 2.0, 2.4 and 2.8GHz running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.

Microsoft last night released its latest software update for Office 2004 for Mac. And Microsoft is to kill off MSN Messenger for Mac, replacing the IM (instant messaging) software with a new product.

News: Apple wrestles Leopard's Time Machine problems
Apple has moved to solve some of the problems Leopard users have reported with Time Machine with several support documents. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard users have complained about stalled and invisible backup and, despite the support documents, Apple Mac users are still filling support forums with complaints about the backup and restore software.

News: Analyst: Leopard's firewall is a 'mess'
A security researcher last week said that Leopard's firewall is confusing, inconsistent, switched off by default and incompatible with some applications. "This firewall is a mess," said Rich Mogull, a security consultant and former Gartner analyst, after spending two days digging into the new firewall's capabilities.
