VMware adds Mac OS X Leopard support

Fusion updated to support Mac OS X 10.4.10

Virtualisation specialist VMware has released an updated version of Fusion, the company's Mac OS X application that allows users to run Microsoft Windows on Intel-based Macs.

Fusion 1.0b4.1 re-enables support for USB devices for users that own Santa Rosa-based MacBook Pros or those that updated to Mac OS X 10.4.10, which was released on Wednesday. According to VMware, Apple updated the USB manager in the Santa Rosa-based MacBook Pros and in the most recent OS X update.

VMware has also extended its support for developers that received the latest beta of Mac OS X Leopard at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference last week. According to the company, Fusion will now install and run correctly with that operating system.

Fusion beta 4 was released earlier this month and incorporated major changes including ‘Unity’, a new feature that lets you run Windows XP applications from your Mac desktop (similar to Parallels' "Coherence" mode). A Fusion Launch Palette lets you access Windows applications, and you can save Windows favourites in the Mac OS X Dock.

Beta 4 also gave users the ability to use their existing Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine, so you don't need to allocate additional hard disk space (or another Windows user license) to VMware Fusion.

VMware Fusion 1.0b4.1 is available as a free download from the company's website.
