Apple has sent out its invitation to an event where the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are expected to launch.

The iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 launch event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater (crap name) in San Francisco on 22 October at 10am local time (6pm in the UK). See also Argos announces new £99 Android tablet.

The early ruours are suggesting that the iPad 5 will feature a new processor, possibly with a M7 coprocessor too, as well as sport a new spay gray colour scheme to bring it in line with the flagship smartphone the iPhone 5s. The major talking point for the iPad mini 2 is its screen. The rumour mill and general consensus of the web is that Apple will use this opportunity to upgrade the iPad mini 2's screen to a Retina display...there are also suggestions that Apple will launch a cheap a iPad mini 2 with a lesser screen in order to capture some of the budget tablet market.
