Apple new iMac (late 2013): Release date, price and specs

Everything you need to know about the Haswell powered iMac

Apple has updated its all-in-one iMac desktop computers with upgraded specifications, namely Intel Haswell fourth-generation processors. Here's all the release date, price and specs information you need on the new iMac.

"iMac continues to be the example that proves how beautiful, fast and fun a desktop computer can be,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple. "Inside its ultra-thin aluminium enclosure, the new iMac has the latest Intel processors, faster graphics, next generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage."

New iMac: Release date

Unlike a lot of product launches, the new iMac models are on sale already. Apple decided to make them available straight after the announcement.

At the time of writing, however, some models state a dispatch time of 24 hours, while others say 2-3 weeks. See: reviews of Apple Macintosh computers.

New iMac: Price

The latest iMac range is available to purchase already. Prices have increased by at least £50 so here's a run-down of the new iMac pricing in the UK.

These are the base prices but, as usual, you can customise the specifications of the iMac to suit your needs. For example, doubling the RAM to 16 GB costs £160 and adding an Apple USB SuperDrive will set you back £65.

Each upper-tier iMac can also be upgraded from a Core i5 processor to a Core i7 for at least £160.

New iMac: Specs

The latest iMac models look the same as the previous generation. However, there have been some upgrades. As we've mentioned, the iMacs now have Intel fourth-generation Haswell processors which start at Core i5 2.7 GHz.

Apple has also given the iMac new graphics, next –generation Wi-Fi and faster flash storage options. See below for full specifications.
