Apple's new higher capacity 128GB iPad 4 has gone on sale in the UK.

The iPad with Retina Display, aka the iPad 4, is now available in a 128GB model starting at £639. The large capacity iPad was rumoured last week, announced by Apple the following day and on sale from today 5 February. See alsoiPad 3 vs iPad 4 comparison review

Along with Apple's announcement, Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said, "With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs."

Like the rest of the iPad range, the 128GB iPad is available in black and white colours. A Wi-Fi and Cellular version costs £739 meaning each cost £80 more than the 64GB models. At the time of writing all models of the 128GB iPad have an estimated dispatch time of 1-3 days.

In its latest earning report Apple said it has sold a total of 22.9 million iPads including the iPad mini during the quarter ending on 29 December. The figure exceeded forecasts and solidified the iPad as the most popular tablet on the market. Best cases and covers for the new iPad

The 128GB iPad came slightly out the blue but this is unlikely to be the case for the iPad mini 2 which is tipped to arrive this year with a Retina quality display.

A large number of non-Apple smartphones and tablets will be announced this month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) where we'll be  bringing you all the news and hands-on with the devices.
