Apple has announced that its Mac OS X Mountain Lion operating system will launch next month.
Apple knocks $10 off upgrade price of Mountain Lion
The firm made the announcement at its worldwide developer conference (WWDC) in San Francisco today. Apple revealed the new details along side new MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs and iOS 6. See also: MacBook Air has Ivy Bridge chip, USB 3.0, 512GB SSD and New MacBook Pro has Retina display.
Apple’s Mac OS X Lion was $29 but it wants more users to get their hands on it so the new price is $19. It will be available via the Mac App Store. Those of buying a new Mac starting today, the upgrade to Mountain Lion will be free.
Apple said Mac OS X Mountain Lion has over 200 new features. One of them is Siri-like dictation which can be used with any application. Reminders, Notification Centre and Messages are other enhancements.
‘Power Nap’ keeps the Mac up to date while it sleeps, fetching email, calendar, reminders, and even Photo Stream. It will also backup to Time Capsule and download updates from the App Store automatically.
