Apple's upcoming iOS 6 will reportedly feature its own map app with a 3D view feature.
Ditches Google maps for in-house software
The firm will being using an in-house map software in favour of Google Maps, according to 9to5mac. This is thanks to acquisitions of Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9. The app will be simply called 'Maps'.
9to5mac said: "Signifying the application’s complete re-write is a new logo for iOS Maps: it is basically a redesigned version of the current iOS Maps icon with a view of Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop Campus, but redrawn with a new color scheme."
The Apple version of Google's Street View and the 3D mode will be powered by C3 Technologies. The firm's Linkedin page says it "provides detailed 3D city models for the web mapping industry."
