Apple kills baby iPhone clothes

Baby clothes used iPod and iPhone icons

A children’s clothes retailer that sold baby outfits based on Apple’s iconic iPod and iPhone user interfaces and icons has been forced to close after Apple demanded it cease business.

Website ipopmybaby.com has been selling the range of iPod and iPhone baby clothes for several years.

But Apple is notoriously protective of its brand and relevant icons, and has finally sent its lawyers in to close down the ipopmybaby business.

The retailer has issued a statement that appears amicable: “Apple has respectfully requested that ipopmybaby.com stop selling iPhone baby outfits.”

Apple hasn’t demanded a complete cessation of business, allowing the website to sell of the remainder of its stock.

The retailer is now offering 40 percent discounts on all its Apple brand-busting baby clobber “until supplies last or December 11th, whichever comes first”.

The baby clothes – showing the orginal iconic iPod clickwheel and iPhone home screen – got great press coverage on their launch.

Former Macworld and New York Times technology correspondent David Pogue commented “OK, have you ever, ever seen anything this cute?” on launch.

Cnet joined in: "Some of us already treat our iPods as if they were our babies. Now we can treat (or at least dress) our babies as if they were iPods."
