Apple iPod Touch to cost £169 in the UK

iPod nano has also been revamped

Apple has revealed the new iPod touch will cost £169 in the UK.

The announcement was made at an Apple's event yesterday (4 October), which also saw the latest iteration of its smartphone, the Apple iPhone 4S, unveiled.

The iPod touch, which is now £20 cheaper than the 4th generation device, has retained the same design but is available for the first time in both black and white and also benefits from Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 5.

Among the features of the new operating system that iPod touch users will benefit from is iMessage that allows you to send messages, pictures and video to others using the service, over Wi-Fi. There have also been improvement to Game Centre so now users can add photos to their profile and purchase new games from within the app.

iPod Touch users will also be able to access iCloud, Apple's new online storage service that automatically syncs music, apps, games and photos taken on the device, in the cloud so they can be accessed from other devices that support the service.

"iPod has revolutionised the way we listen to music and with over 320 million sold is the world's most popular music player," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

"iPod touch, now available in both black and white, is the best selling iPod ever, and with iOS 5 and iCloud it is better than ever."

The iPod touch is priced at £169 for the 8GB version while the 32GB and 64GB cost £249 and £329 respectively.

Apple has also revamped the iPod nano with larger icons and a selection of 16 different clock faces. The iPod nano, which comes in seven colours and 8GB or 16GB capacities, costs £115 and £129 respectively.
