iPhone 5 release dates rumours:
UPDATE: iPhone 5 release date
In textbook Apple fashion, an invite has been sent out by the Californian tech giant
that reads "It's almost here." followed by a large number 12 (event date in September) that casts a shadow of the number 5. Which is as much of a hint as to what the event taking place at the Yerba Buena Centre for Arts Theatre, as Apple could possibly give. See Apple announces Sep. 12 special event.
Apple iPhone 5 media event - 12 September 2012. After these Apple iPhone unveiling events, the next generation iPhone is usually available to buy within 1-4 weeks, so die hard fans should get all Apple Store camping essentials ready. See also: iPhone 5 launch: everything you need to know.
iPhone 5 release date rumour 1
Apple will reveal its iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini on 12 September if we are to believe iMore. The website this is the date for a joint launch of both devices, citing 'sources who have proven accurate in the past'. The site even goes as far as to say the iPhone 5 will hit the shops nine days later on 21 September.
There's no date for the iPad Mini but a third device, the next generation of iPod Nano, will also be unveiled with the smartphone and tablet. These dates wouldn't be too far off Apple's launch of the iPhone 4S which went on sale on 14 October. By Chris Martin - read the full iPhone 5 and iPad Mini to be released on 12 September article.
iPhone 5 release date rumour 2
Apple will announce the iPhone 5 during a keynote speech on 7 August. If KnowYourMobile's 'reliable industry source' is to be believed, the illustrious iPhone 5's launch date is 7 August. The news contradicts the general expectation of an autumn launch of September or October.
The source was unable to reveal any other details about the launch or the iPhone 5's specifications. The smartphone will debut Apple's iOS 6 operating system but the date of 7 August doesn't match the fact Apple said the OS will be released in the autumn.
iPhone 5 release date rumour 3
iPhone 5 will "launch" in September - that's the claim by rumorsite Digitimes, which cites the ever-elusive but unquenchably talkative "Taiwan-based supply chain makers."
According to the post, Pegatron Technology "reportedly" now has orders for the Next iPhone "to be launched in September" as well as orders for a 10-inch iPad - apparently meaning an iPad
iPhone 5 release date rumour 4
The October prediction is backed up by the Japanese Apple bloggers Macotakara who say they have 'sources' confirming the Cupertino brand would be honouring the same upgrade cycle from now on. Here's a translation from the report featured on the well respected Japanese blog: "According to Asian reliable source, next iPhone will be released in September or October, and this cycle seems to be kept for years".
iPhone 5 release date rumour 5
Technology website T3 made the interesting observation that the iPhone 4S launch back in October last year, was the only time Apple has made users wait 15 months for a new device, rather than the usual 12 month cycle used for the previous four iPhones. Updated 22/3/12
iPhone 5 release date rumour 6
Apple’s next-generation iPhone will launch in June, according to a recruiter working at a Foxconn factory in China. The recruiter was filmed speaking about the iPhone 5 by Japanese TV Tokyo's World Business Satellite program, which was broadcast on Monday.
As pointed out by Apple Insider, when asked how many people the factory is going to hire, the Foxconn recruiter said: "We're looking for 18,000 employees... for the fifth-generation phone."When asked if he meant the iPhone 5, the recruiter replied: "That's right. It will come out in June."
Though the next iPhone will be the sixth-generation, many people throughout the industry are currently still referring to it as the iPhone 5. It is thought, however, that the next iPhone will follow the naming conventions of the new iPad, scrapping numbers all together. Updated 4/4/12
iPhone 5 Specs:
iPhone 5 faces a "battery challenge"
According to Hughes' post, the investors note by White (no relation to white) about Sina.com's report "suggested that only 30 percent of the battery volumes produced currently meet Apple's standards." Go to iPhone 5 will "launch" in September.
In what must surely be one of the great 2012 iOSphere understatements, the "unnamed battery vendor is reportedly working to solve the problem as development of Apple's next iPhone ramps up ahead of an anticipated release later this year." iPhone 5 to get NFC chip
Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 will come with a near-field communications (NFC) chip.
Two prototypes of the next iPhone pulled indicate the smartphone will contain an NFC chip. The hardware code for the iPhone 5 called 'N41AP (5,1)' and 'N42AP (5,2)' have been discovered by 9to5mac.
im Peters, CTO of IT and communications firm SITA said: "Opinion is that Apple is going to incorporate NFC into Passbook. Apple just thinks about how they can make it really easy for the user, and then they figure out how to monetise it. They don’t think about how to monetise it and then tell the user what they can have. It doesn’t work like that." Read the full iPhone 5 to get NFC chip article by Chris Martin.
iPhone 5 will get mini dock connector
Apple will replace its traditional 30-pin connector with a smaller 19-pin docking port on the iPhone 5.
The mini port has been independently confirmed by TechCrunch which claims three independent manufacturers agree in the 19-pin connector. If this is the case then all current iPhone accessories with a dock will be incompatible with the iPhone 5.
Although Apple has used the 30-pin connector since the third generation of iPod, it supposedly wants to save space. The connector looks similar to a Thunderbolt port found on the new MacBook Pro with Retina display and will be roughly the same size. Read the full iPhone 5 will get mini dock connector here.
iPhone 5 to have e-wallet capability
For at least a year, it's been rumored that the Next iPhone would have a near-field communications (NFC) radio chip, which could eventually be used to support electronic payments or other proximity-based services. But a new iOS 6 app -- Passbook -- unveiled at Apple's recent Worldwide Developers Conference is seen by some as a precursor to a more fully developed e-payment infrastructure for the iPhone, an infrastructure that may not need a chip at all, at least at first.
Reporting for The Telegraph, Christopher Williams notes that Passbook was promoted by Apple as an easy-to-use container for various documents with associated barcodes, such as movie tickets, airline boarding passes and the like. Coupled with location data, Passbook can tell when you arrive at the airport, and retrieve the boarding pass, for example. Read the full iPhone 5 to have e-wallet capability article here.
iPhone 5 to may have tactile touchscreen
New Apple iPhone 5 patent seems to have some type of flexible surface, but uses stacked layers of "piezoelectric elements" to create the physical buttons or keys.
The patent reveals a "similar technology" to that of Tactus and makes the intuitive leap of faith that lies at the heart of iOSphere rumors: "A similar technology dealing with advanced haptics and feedback is reportedly being built for Apple's sixth-generation smartphone, presumably called the 'iPhone 5.'"
But if even it isn't in iPhone 5, "it's likely that a future iPhone will feature Tactus Technology's dynamic touchscreens," Smith declares. "Feeling buttons or controls on a smartphone would be extremely useful for completing tasks that typically require a keyboard. ... It's an incredible and exciting technology. ... But if this really is a hot technology, there's a great chance Apple will rush to get its recently-granted patent into its next iPhone, which is expected to arrive in September or October."
