Steve Jobs official biography 'next year'

iSteve: The Book of Jobs out in 2012

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has finally agreed to participate in a book about his life, reports The Associated Press.

Simon & Schuster has announced that Walter Isaacson's "iSteve: The Book of Jobs" – a genuine two-pun title – will be published in early 2012 and includes interviews with Jobs, members of his family, colleagues at Apple and competitors.

Steve Jobs, 56, is as legendary for his secrecy and demands for privacy as he is for his love of publicity and adulation, so an official biography is a surprise.

Jobs has previously reacted with anger at unauthorised biographies. In 2005 he acted swiftly against Jeffrey Young and William Simon’s book ‘iCon: Steve Jobs, The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business’.

As retribution for publishing this unauthorized biography, Jobs banned all publications (including such bestsellers as Macs For Dummies, Mac OS X Secrets) from publisher John Wiley & Sons from Apple retail stores.

Five years previously Jobs had attempted to force Random House CEO Peter Olson to pulp Alan Deutschman's unauthorised Jobs biog The Second Coming of Steve Jobs. He failed but did manage to kill extracts of the book in Vanity Fair, where Deutschman was a contributing editor.

Isaacson is a former top executive at CNN and Time magazine who has written best-sellers about Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein – both of whom appeared in Apple’s Think Different advertising campaign.

"This is the perfect match of subject and author, and it is certain to be a landmark book about one of the world's greatest innovators," Jonathan Karp, publisher of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement.

"Just as he did with Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, Walter Isaacson is telling a unique story of revolutionary genius."
