Apple adds Braille display support to Leopard

Update boosts Mac OS X accessibility

Apple has updated Mac OS X Leopard with a 448k download that's designed to improve accessibility for blind and partially-sighted users.

Braille Display Update 1.0 boosts accessibility by introducing support for Braille displays to Mac OS X 10.5.

Braille display support is used in tandem with Apple's VoiceOver screen-reading technology, which sends information about what is displayed on screen to the Braille display.

The installer widens the number of Braille displays that Leopard does support, implementing such support for the following models:

GW Micro BrailleSense
GW Micro SyncBraille 20
GW Micro SyncBraille 32
HandyTech Easy Braille
HandyTech Braille Star 40
HandyTech Braille Star 80
HIMS BrailleSense
HIMS SyncBraille 20
HIMS SyncBraille 32
Nippon Telesoft Seika Version 3
Papenmeier Braillex Trio
