Apple updates Mac mini

Desktop get nVidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and FireWire 800

Apple has announced an updated version of its Mac mini desktop computer.

Available in two models, the Mac mini features a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of DDR3 1066MHz memory, up to 320GB Serial ATA hard drive, five USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800 and a SuperDrive. It's the first update to the range since August 2007.

9400M, found in Apple's aluminium unibody MacBooks, brings up to five times faster graphics performance to the Mac mini, promises Apple.

Apple's new Mac mini

The Mac mini now includes dual display support. It can drive two Apple or third-party displays with Mini DisplayPort or DVI connections.

Interestingly, the Mac mini, which is now priced at £499 for the entry-level machine, sports a FireWire 800 socket. Although rumoured shots featured a FireWire 800, it stands in contrast to the MacBook, which had FireWire removed. The presence of a FireWire 800 socket could show that Apple has changed its mind about the technology.
