CES for this year has been and gone but Sony has decided to announce its Xperia Tablet Z now.

The firm announced the Xperia Z smartphone at CES but no tablets. Now the Xperia Tablet Z has been revealed in Japan after details were leaked online recently. See also: Sony Xperia Z hands-on review.

The Xperia Tablet Z will launch in Japan this spring in black and white. Unfortunately there is now word on a wider global launch yet but we hope that it will find its way to the UK.

Sony's latest tablet is a slender 6.9mm and weighs 495g making it thinner and lighter than Apple's iPad and Google's Nexus 10. It has a 10.1in Reality Display with a higher than Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200 and Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2.

Other specifications include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, NFC (near-field communications) and support for 4G LTE. Sony said the 8.1Mp rear camera has its CMOS Exmor R sensor.

"Is equipped with a feature that brings together movement and sound, "S-Force Front Surround 3D" virtual surround Sony's unique technology to achieve a sense of spaciousness" added the firm.
