Toshiba announces AT300SE tablet

Downgrades existing Android tablet to hit affordable price

Toshiba AT300SE

Toshiba has unveiled its latest tablet, the AT300SE.

After the launch of its AT300 earlier this year, Toshiba has announced an new version called the AT300SE. The Android-powered tablet will go on sale in the fourth quarter priced at £299. See also: Group test: what's the best tablet PC?

Toshiba said: "Based on the build quality of the Toshiba AT300 premium tablet, the new SE version was designed with everyday and cost-conscious consumers in mind."

The AT300SE is both heavier and thicker than its predecessor at 625g and 10.5mm, and cameras have been downgraded to 3Mp and 1.2Mp. The emphasis is on the more affordable price point. Tablet Advisor

Remaining specifications are pretty much the same with a 10.1in (1280x800) screen, an nVidia Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. See also: Google Nexus 10 review.

Toshiba has dropped the micro-HDMI port found on the AT300. There's a touted 10 hours of battery life and the AT300SE comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
