nabi 2 is the best tablet for kids, claims US maker Fuhu

There are lots of tablets which are designed with kids in mind, but few measure up. California-based Fuhu thinks its new nabi 2 tablet is the best around, and doesn't pull any punches on its website.

In fact, the company is quick to point out the flaws in its competitors products, including jerky scrolling, slow web browsing and unresponsive touchscreens. See also: Grouptest - what's the best tablet for children?

The nabi 2, Fuhu claims, will put an end to all those and other problems thanks to the quad-core nVidia Tegra 3 processor - the same used in Google's Nexus 7.

However, the interface, which is based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, has also been completely customised for kids to use and includes big, colourful buttons, a curated app store (with the ability to install Amazon's app store for a broader choice), and built-in apps such as Chore List and Treasure box which "help parents teach children how to make the right choices".

In terms of specifications, the £150 nabi 2 doesn't quite match up to tablets at a similar price. Its 7in screen has a 1024 x 600 resolution (lower than the Nexus 7) and also has the previous version of Bluetooth (3.0). In other respects, it has everything you need including fast Wi-Fi, a front-facing 2Mp camera, plus USB and HDMI ports.

The nabi 2's 8GB of memory is pre-loaded with over £120 worth of applications, books and music, and comes with a food-grade silicone bumper (like Kurio's 7, which isn't food-grade) that protects both tablet and children. Apps include FoozKids University, Spinlets+ Music and TV (a streaming service which costs £2.49 per month) and there's also nabi Sync which automatically synchs your photos, music and videos with a PC or Mac.

Finally, nabi Cloud includes 2GB of free online storage, upgradeable to 50GB. We'll bring you a full review as soon as possible.
