VTech InnoTab 2 children's tablet upgraded

Kids' tablet now has self-portrait lens

One of last Christmas’s hottest toys, the VTech InnoTab, is getting an upgrade in time for this year’s gift-giving festivities, and is available right now for summer holiday fun. See also - Group test: Best tablets for children

The £84.99 InnoTab 2 (aimed at 4-9 year olds) improves on the original InnoTab with a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera with a rotating ‘self-portrait’ lens – a popular feature of VTech’s Kidizoom camera. Kids can take their own picture, use the editing suite to add special effects to it and then use their photo in various games and apps.

The InnoTab 2 also features a built-in microphone for enhanced gameplay and video recording.

VTech has also signed partnership agreements that will give InnoTab owners access to a library of videos of TV programmes, mini e-books and music content.

The content, from the Learning Lodge Navigator (LLN), will boast hundreds of downloads including TV shows, music and e-books featuring a bunch of children’s favourite characters and artists such as Peppa Pig, Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Thomas & Friends, as well as a host of famous artists from the Sony Music catalogue. The new downloads will be available from mid-August on InnoTab 2.

The new children’s tablet comes with a software cartridge ‘Read, Play & Create’ where kids can read a What’s That Noise e-book, learn via the Alien Rescue augmented reality game or get creative with Colour & Pop. It also comes with two free games tokens.

The InnoTab 2 looks much like the first version, with a 5-inch screen, and equipped with video player, art studio, G sensor, MP3 music players, e-reader, calendar, friends list, notes app and an augmented reality game.

Its internal 2GB memory can be expanded with a built-in SD card memory reader.
