Toshiba has announced three Android tablets of varying sizes under the Excite branding.
Concept ideas become a reality
All the tablets will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and range from 7.7in up to a whopping 13in. The in-between model has a more traditional 10.1in screen size. They are named the Excite 7.7, Excite 10 and Excite 13.
"One size does not fit all, so we are carefully considering how and where people are using tablets and designing form factors to best suit various needs," said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba.
Each of the tablets will be powered by an nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor along with a 5Mp rear facing camera and 2Mp front facing camera.
We got to see the 7.7in and 13in models last month at Toshiba's Product Preview 2012 when they were pitched as concept devices. The 7.7in (AT470) was the only one of the two working and has an impressive AMOLED screen.
The Excite 10 has a 1280 x 800 AutoBrite LED display as well as 1GB of RAM, microUSB, microHDMI and full-size SD. The Excite 13 is pitched as a tablet for the home due to its size. It has the same set of ports as the Excite 10, an AutoBrite LED display but this time with a 1600 x 900 resolution.
Toshiba touts a battery life of 13 hours for the Excite 13 and 10 hours battery life for the Excite 10.
The first one to launch to market will be the Excite 10 in May starting at $449. The Excite 7.7 and Excite 13 will then be released in June prices from $499 and $649, respectively.
There's been no confirmation from Toshiba that the tablets with launch outside of the US yet but we think it's likely that at least one of them will come to the UK considering we've been shown two of them already.
