Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 debuts early at PC World

Preorder now for pick-up next week

PC World will start selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet from next Wednesday – a day earlier than its official UK launch date. The Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablet has been written specifically for use on tablets, while apps that take advantage of the faster processors, larger screens and better displays found on tablets also abound.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has 1GB of RAM and a 1GHz nVidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor at its heart. Its 10in WCXGA capacitive touchscreen has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels  and there’s both a primary 3Mp camera and a 2Mp front-facing webcam. Bluetooth3.0, GPRA, Edge  and 802.11b, g and n Wi-Fi all feature. A 3G version of the tablet will also be offered. The 8.6mm-thick tablet weighs 550g,making it the lightest 10.1in tablet on the market. Samsung says the 700mAh battery should last for up to nine hours between charges.

As well as access to the Android Market and hundreds of apps with which to customise the tablet, Samsung includes its TouchWiz interface (an import from its Galaxy smartphones), Google Video Talk and Samsung Social Hub for direct access to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn

PC World’s Tottenham Court Road store in London will be selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 from 5pm on Wednesday 3 August. The tablet officially goes onsale in the UK the next day. DSG, which owns Currys and PC World, will be the exclusive launch partners for the £399 Wi-Fi version of the tablet. The 3G version will be available through mobile operators. 

Mark Slater, category director for computing, communications and office at DSGi, said: “The online buzz and hype around the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been such that we are expecting significant interest both online from today when customers can pre-order and at goes on sale a day early in August. 

Last year Samsung launched a 7in-screen Galaxy Tab Android tablet that went on to be one of the biggest sellers of the year.
