Corel Painter 11 illustration software

Corel has announced Corel Painter 11 will go onsale from the middle of next month for £263 inc VAT. The new version of Corel Painter adds a slew of new and improved features, many of which should appeal to the less confident would-be digital artist.

A colour management function in Corel Painter 11 promises better colour accuracy when images are imported from photo editors such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Paint Shop Pro.

Corel has also boosted the program's customisation options for brushes and other media. These include the ability to undo brushstrokes that turn out not to have worked as well as anticipated. Corel hopes the new features will give users "the confidence to explore a wide variety of artistic techniques".

In all, Corel has made 40 changes to Painter in version 11, some of which are features found in the illustration program for the first time. Others extend and enhance existing features.

Corel Painter 11 will be available from mid-March and is priced at £263.35 for the boxed version and £136.85 for users upgrading from a previous version.
