BlackBerry launches BlackBerry 10: details
BlackBerry today announced its new platform: BlackBerry 10. BlackBerry 10 is the company's attempt to take on the Apple iPhone, Android phones and even Microsoft's nascent Windows Phone 8 handsets. It has a whole new set of apps and media-purchasing outlets, and will be the OS on which all forthcoming BlackBerry phones run. Here's details of BlackBerry 10.

Microsoft launches Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Microsoft today released a version of Internet Explorer 10 for all Windows 7 users. It's not the final version of IE 10 for Windows 7: the Release Preview is a feature-complete version of Internet Explorer 10, but Microsoft doesn't wish to give it the final seal of approval until sufficient Windows 7 users have stress tested it and ironed out any kinks.

Ubuntu 12.10 'Quantal Quetzal' launches today
Canonical has released Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, the latest version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. 12.10 brings several new features to the OS, the most note-worthy and controversial being a commercial partnership with retail giant Amazon.

New Norton products make Windows 8 'faster and more secure'
Symantec today released the 2013 versions of its Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security security software, claiming that its new products offer greater levels of security and a faster experience than ever before, as well as being Windows 8 certified. Indeed, a Norton spokesman told us that PassMark's "Real World Performance Test" suggested that replacing Windows 8's native security with the new Norton products would make that OS run up to 50 percent faster.

Windows 8 Pro upgrade available on Amazon for £49
Amazon is selling the upgrade version of Windows 8 Pro for £49 via Amazon's UK website. Customers who pre-order now now will receive a DVD-ROM containing the Windows 8 code and an installation key shortly after Windows 8's October 26 release date.

Windows 8 to cost $39 for XP, Vista and Windows 7 users
Microsoft has announced via a blog that it will offer upgrades to Windows 8 for just $39.99 for anyone using an existing Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP device. Windows Media Center will be available free to upgraders, although it will require an additional download.

Symantec today launched the latest version of its Norton 360 internet security and PC performance software suite. Norton 360 v6 is the first version of Norton 360 to be compatible with Windows 8. Norton 360 v6 costs £59.99 inc VAT for up to 3 PCs with a 2GB backup allowance, and £69.99 inc VAT for up to 5 PCs with 25GB.
